Townhall.com has a very good article on why Islam is considered bad religion by much of the west – just look at the behavior of its adherents. To summarize his well-taken points:
- The recent false report by Newsweek on the flushing of the Koran by the US Military incited Muslim riots around the world, resulting in 17 deaths
- Similar or worse incidents against Xians (the shredding of Xian bibles in Islamic countries, not to mention the persecution of Xians by Muslims), Jews (the destruction of the Tomb of Joseph by Arabs in 2000), and Buddhists (the Taliban destruction of two priceless, 1,500-year-old statues of Buddha in Afghanistan) resulted in no such idiocy
Christians, Jews, and Buddhists don’t lash out in homicidal rage when their religion is insulted. They don’t call for holy war and riot in the streets. It would be unthinkable today for a mainstream priest, rabbi, or lama to demand that a blasphemer be slain. But when Reuters reported what Mohammad Hanif, the imam of a Muslim seminary in Pakistan, said about the alleged Koran-flushers — ”They should be hung. They should be killed in public so that no one can dare to insult Islam and its sacred symbols” — was any reader surprised?
But what disgraces Islam above all is the vast majority of the planet’s Muslims saying nothing and doing nothing about the jihadist cancer eating away at their religion. It is Free Muslims Against Terrorism, a pro-democracy organization, calling on Muslims and Middle Easterners to ”converge on our nation’s capital for a rally against terrorism” this month — and having only 50 people show up.
But even more importantly, Islam’s founding documents do not discourage such behavior, but encourage it. If you want to read a good book on this subject, I highly recommend Mark Gabriel’s Islam and Terrorism: What the Quran Really Teaches About Christianity, Violence and the Goals of the Islamic Jihad. Gabriel (not his original Egyptian name) was a Professor of Islamic History at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, the premier Islamic Unisersity in the world. However, after asking too many intellectual questions about Islam, and being almost killed for it, he left it, and later found Christianity. Unlike Xian critiques of Islam, which are mostly done by outsiders, Gabriel was a scholar and teacher of Islam. He is kind, but frank about what Islam teaches. In its core teachings, it is bent on world conquest by the sword, and is merciless in its view of justice and unbelief.
