Last evening, I watched the movie Bulletproof Monk for the first time. This humorous and entertaining movie has a riddle for the novice martial artist to solve, and in so doing, proving his enlightenment. The riddle is this:
Why do hot dogs come in packs of 10, but buns come in packs of 8?
Of course, there are practical answers to this question, and this problem has pretty much gone away now that most dogs are sold in 8-packs. But the fun thing in the movie was to determine what gem of wisdom was hidden in this riddle. As it turns out, the answer in the movie is that "life doesn’t always turn out the way you expect, so you have to make the best of it and be happy with what you have." Good advice, for sure, but I started thinking. What other gems of wisdom could be hidden in this riddle?
- God allows mistakes – you can burn 20% of your hot dogs and still have all you need
- Don’t worry if everything doesn’t add up – in the end, someone who doesn’t like bread will come along and it will all work out.
- There is always opportunity for the entrepreneur looking to solve problems
- There are more men than women out there (OK, only true in some countries like China), so if you can’t find a woman, you may be stuck with another dog in the end.
Anyway, feel free to contribute your own "wisdom." Heh.
